Some of Evie's Firsts...

Evie has already been doing lots of fun things during her first two weeks of life.

Here she is in my parents bouncer seat for the first time. She sat there so good while we all ate dinner.

This was her first car ride with the whole family. We were headed to Great Grandma's house to visit.

Here first time in the swing. She seems to like it so far.

First official out of the house outing to Babies R Us. This was also her and Evan's first time in our new double stroller.

She did great; slept the whole time.

Evan wanted to get out of the stroller and run around. :)

First time in her new bouncer chair. She and Evan both have their own chairs now because Evan didn't like when she sat in his chair.

However, he also didn't like that she had a new chair and wanted to sit in it too. So for now we just switch her to whatever chair he doesn't want to sit in. Silly boy! :)

We are all having a blast with little Evie and look forward to many more firsts.

First Doctor's Visit

Our first big outing with Evie was to the doctor for her two day check up on January 12. We didn't see her regular doctor, but another Kaiser doctor, Dr. Hooten. She was really great. We will see her normal doctor at the two week check up.

Dr. Hooten was very happy with Evie's weight she went down to 6 lbs. 3 oz., which she thought was a normal decrease and was happy with her feeding. Evie also had a higher bilirubin rate at birth and we had to do another test on Tuesday before our appointment. The results came back still slightly high, but they thought she was in the clear. She just asked us to monitor her coloring. We haven't noticed any changes so I think she is good. Overall, Dr. Hooten thought Evie looked great and was pleased with how well she was doing. We go to the doctor again on Monday, January 25 so we will get another update then.

Here is Jim getting Evie ready for the doctor to look at her.

Here are me and Evie next to the scale that she was just weighed on.

After the appointment, Evie, dressed and ready to go home. :)

However, she was not to happy to have to get in her car seat to get there. :) The good news is that she stopped crying once we left the office.

The Fab Four!

Jim and I took a few pictures of our expanded family on Saturday. Here are each of us with the kidos.

Evan giving love...ohhhh...he loves to say this when he gives hugs. Simply adorable!

Then pictures of Jim and I with our new little princess.

We are so blessed!

The Labor Story

Here is the story of how little EVIE JOY KNIGHT came into the world on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 12:41 p.m. We must acknowledge that the Lord has been present in all aspects of the arrival of our little blessing. He is so good!

This is a picture of Jim and I right before we left for the hospital. Grandma and Grandpa Thompson came over to stay with Evan.

Here is the last picture of Evie inside my tummy at almost exactly 40 weeks, the official due date was January 11, 2010.

To sum up the delivery of our daughter it was FAST. We had hoped to post some kind of update about how we checked into the hospital on Facebook or send text messages, but the first message we were able to get out was that she is here! :) This includes even letting my parents know who were watching Evan. Things went super quick once we arrived at the hospital.

We officially checked into the hospital at 9:55 a.m. and had her in less than 3 hours. So crazy! The funny thing is that we were kind of hanging around the house waiting to go in thinking it would probably take awhile like it did with Evan. We arrived at the hospital 4:00 a.m. with Evan and didn't have him until around 7:00 p.m. that evening. So wrong about her labor being similar - good thing we went in when we did.

Labor actually started at about 12:00 a.m., with consistent, close contractions at 5:00 a.m. We tried to get as much sleep as possible that night as we knew things were probably going to happen the next day. When we arrived at Kaiser I was between 4 and 5 centimeters and 90% effaced, and the contractions were lasting between 1 and 2 minutes taking place every 3 minutes. Good times! The plan was to get the epidural, which I did, but the best part is that right after I got it I had to push and she was ready to come out. So the epidural did not
start working until after she was already here and I was trying to hold and feed her. So funny! :)

The labor was so much different than with Evan, she came in 3 pushes, about 5 minutes. With Evan I pushed for 3 hours and he still needed a little vacuum and an episiotomy. :) The best part is I totally wasn't as sore as with Evan. Only needed on stitch. God is so good! He knew that I would need the strength and mobility to help care for both Evan and Evie. :)

The hospital was also great; Kaiser Roseville! :) We loved our nurses and doctors. The doctor that delivered us we actually just meet as Evie was coming out, since she came so fast, the previous doctor that examined me when we checked in was at lunch. Nevertheless, both were amazing and did a fantastic job!

My bother and sister-in-law visited us the night Evie was born and took this picture along with several of the other fabulous family pictures at the hospital. Thank you both so much!

Little Evie is such a blessing already. She was almost exactly Evan's same size, 6 lbs 8 oz, he was 6 lbs 10 oz and they both were 19 inches long. The big difference is she has some hair. :) Yippee, bring on the hair bows! :) The machine pictured below shows her birth weight.

Here she is getting her first bath and her hair combed by nurse Josie. She absolutely loved this part.

Here is a picture of me and my baby right after her bath. She is so beautiful.

Here is Jim in our labor room next to the board with all the fun stats of the event.

Our beautiful little girl. More of Debra's fabulous pictures while we were at the hospital.

Her little fingers

Tiny, delicate feet

Here we are in the postpartum room enjoying little Evie.

Our stay at the hospital was just a little over 24 hours. We checked out at about 2:30 p.m. It was nice to be going home so quickly and to get back to our little guy, Evan too. Plus, you can't get any real sleep in a hospital with the staff coming in and out so much. :)

Due to our short stay we only had a few visitors, Grandma and Grandpa Thompson. Who got us the adorable balloon and beautiful flowers.

and Uncle Rhett and Aunt Debra. :) Our fantastic photographers.

Here was our postpartum room right as we were about to check out.

Here is Evie in her car seat with her first real outfit on. She wasn't too happy to be unswaddled and put into this seat, but did calm down once we got to the car.

When we got home from the hospital Evan had just woken up from his nap. He initially was very excited to see Evie and couldn't wait for her to get out of the car seat. But, Evie started crying and then so did he. He slowly has been accepting her and loves giving her hugs and kisses. He still doesn't enjoy her crying very much and doesn't want her to sit in any of his seats (i.e. baby swing, bouncer chair, car seat). :)

To help Evan accept Evie more into the family she got him this cool fire truck with balls along with help from my parents. He loved it and thought she was pretty cool for thinking of him. :)

Evie's first day at home. She was fitting right in and loving resting in her new bassinet from good friends Rachel and Mike. Thanks so much guys! :)

I just want to thank you all again for your love, prayers and support. We can't wait for you to meet little Evie in the near future. Stay tuned for more pictures and updates of our family real soon. Love and blessings to all of you, Jim, Kim, Evan and Evie :)

Proud to annouce the arrival of our daughter...

Evie Joy Knight!

Evie (Hebrew), and its meaning is life. Origin of the name Evie:
Derived from the Hebrew Chava (life), which is from hawwah (life). The name is borne in the Bible by the first woman, "the mother of all the living."

Joy (English, Old French, and Latin origin) it means happiness and joy. Used in the Middle Ages, and made popular in the 17th century under the influence of the Puritans, to whom being "joyful in the Lord" was an important duty. In modern times, it generally signifies the parents' joy in their new-born child, or with the intention of wishing him/her a happy life.

She entered the world on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 12:41 p.m. at 6 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long. Dad, Mom, and Big Brother are all doing great and loving having Evie join our family. We all feel truly blessed and praise the Lord for our newest little miracle!

Glowing Mommy, smiling with delight at her blessing from above...

and Proud Papa loving his little angel more than he could ever imagine. :)

Here is our first family photo; we were unable to get one in the hospital because they had a policy that no kids under the age of 14 could visit due to the H1N1 flu virus. So this was right after we came home from the hospital. Evan had just woken up from his nap and came downstairs and got to meet Evie. He initially was very excited, but she started crying and then so did he. He tried to hold his composure for a few minutes so we could get this picture. :)

Our beautiful daughter on her first day at home.

Let the sibling love begin...here is Big Brother with his Little Sis! :)

Thank you for all of your love, prayers, and support during this exciting time. More details and pictures to come real soon from The Knight Fab 4! :)

Coming real close to the finish line...

The final stretch is upon us. Here I am at 38 weeks on December 30. The funny thing is I actually thought I might be going into labor that night. I was getting tons of contractions and pain, but she wasn't ready. This is a good thing. We had hoped for a 2010 baby and now we have officially made it. I think she will also appreciate having a birthday a little farther away from the holidays. Nevertheless, we can't wait to meet her and see her beautiful face in just a few short days.

Also, Evan can say baby, sister, and big brother now. :) He loves to kiss Mommy's belly and the other day we caught him walking around lifting up his shirt and rubbing his stomach saying baby. So funny!

Here I am this week at 39 weeks on Monday, January4.

Quick update from the doctor, I saw her yesterday and she is still predicting that Baby Girl will probably come pretty much on the due date or real close to it. We are still right on track and everything is going great. Praise the Lord! So at this point we wait a few more days and enjoy our family of 3 as much as possible. :) Keep you posted! :) Thank you already for all of your prayers and support! Love you all! :)

Evan's 1st Haircut

Evan got his first haircut today at Jack and Jillybeans Salon in Roseville. It was so great. He got to sit in a firetruck, have a little cell phone (A "Cars" cellphone to be exact), and watch Baby Einstein. The other great thing was another little boy was also getting his first haircut at the same time. We had the friendliest stylist named, Miranda. All in all it was a fabulous experience. They even gave Evan a certificate and we received a little envelope with his first locks. This place was recommended by my friend Rachel; thanks Rachel! :)

I think Evan really enjoyed all parts of the experience and found it to even be relaxing. He looks very relaxed in the pictures in my opinion, but who can blame him who doesn't love getting pampered. :)

Here he is at the start, getting his hair watered down.

Then they cut off the first locks.

I love how he is looking at himself in the mirror in this picture.

Doing the top cut.

A little trimming with the clippers, which he got to turn on.

Then getting it evened out in the back.

And the last bit of styling, including some product to help keep down the wispys. :)

Final result with a proud Daddy and Mommy below...such a handsome little boy! We love you Evan! :)

Isn't it funny how we are all wearing stripes, not planned, but fun! :)
