A Very Merry 1st Christmas for Evan

Evan had a very merry first Christmas and was able to see all of his family during this special time of year. He also enjoyed the many decorations and preparations for the big day. Here are pictures of Evan enjoying the decor at our house.

The family celebrations began with Jim's mom and sister visiting on the weekend before Christmas, December 19 -22. We spent time together shopping, eating, looking at Christmas lights and of course opening presents.

Then Evan celebrated Christmas with Kim's Grandma on Christmas Eve. We all went to Black Angus for dinner and then back to her place for gift giving and dessert.

Christmas Day was enjoyed with a new tradition of opening up gifts with just the three of us at our very own home. It was wonderful and a great time of togetherness and fun as we dressed in our new pajamas. Something Kim wanted us to do. :) We also read the Christmas Story to Evan. We really wanted him to know that this special day was important because it was celebrating the birthday of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Later on in the day we prepared our first Christmas dinner and used our china for the first time. We've had it for over seven years, so it was quite thrilling. Kim's parents and brother and sister-in-law came over and enjoyed the meal of Orange Glazed Cornish Game Hens and other traditional holiday dishes. We then opened a few more gifts and had some dessert.

Last but certainly not least Jim's Dad and Deb came over for some appetizers, more dessert and gifts. Evan I think was pretty overwhelmed by the day, but truly, had a fantastic first Christmas. He especially loved eating the ribbons and bows.

The popular gift of the year was the piano. Here is Evan the day after Christmas with all of them. They were each a little different. I guess we all hope Evan will be a music prodigy one day. Gotta love it- he does!

Hope you all had a wonderful Holiday season!

Meeting Santa

Evan got to meet Santa for the first time on Thursday, December 18, at Country Club Plaza. He was very excited and looked absolutely precious in his matching red suit and hat. Here he is right before the big moment with Mommy.

We also took a quick family picture before his meeting. You can see Santa in the background.

Below are pictures of the encounter that Grandma Thompson took. Evan did so great- no crying at all. He just took everything in and was checking out the situation looking at everyone very carefully.

Here he is looking at Santa...

and then he looks back at Mommy and Daddy.

Then he braves it out sitting on Santa's lap all by himself posing pretty for the camera.

Here is the final picture. We were so proud of our little Santa Bear!

Here is a picture of Evan with Grandma and Grandpa Thompson who were also at the scene. You can see Santa in the background he was on his cell phone. I think calling Mrs. Claus to tell her he would be home soon as we were the last visit with Santa for the night. :)

Eating Rice Cereal

On Sunday, December 14, Evan ate rice cereal for the first time with a smile. As seen from these pictures. We have been attempting to feed him rice cereal since Monday and each time he is offered the meal he has cried with dislike. We were offering it to him every other day, so he wouldn't get too irritated, and today we had victory! He did so well, messy, but he did get most of the food in his mouth and or sucked it off his bib! :) Way to go little guy- we love you! Here is to more successful good eats! :)

Play date with Brittney and shopping with Tyler

On Monday, December 15, Evan and I had a great time hanging out and having lunch with long time friend Jennifer and her adorable daughter Brittney, currently two years old and such a cutie. We had a great time catching up and taking pictures of the kids. So much fun!

Then the next day we got the pleasure of shopping and dinning with Tyler and Natalie on Tuesday, December 16, at the mall. We had a great time and were able to get a little Christmas shopping done too. Also, Evan received a very special surprise as the Wisner's gave him an adorable handmade bear. Natalie actually crafted it out of a mitten. She is so talented and creative. Evan loved it and is pictured with it below. Thank you Dave, Natalie and Tyler!

Evan can't wait to hang out with everyone again in the near future. He loves his friends and so does his Mommy! :)

Our new home and Evan's room

We found a house! Yippee! God provided and brought us a wonderful home in Northern California that has everything we could have hoped. We are loving the neighborhood, the city and of course being near family.

Evan is especially loving finally having a room again. Here are some pictures of his new abode. Jim and I truly believe it is the best room in the house. :) First is a picture of Jim making the room transform into Evan's special place. Great job Dad!

Tada...This is a picture of Evan in his room for the first time. He appears to be loving it from the looks of this picture!

Four Months Old

Evan had his four month old check up today with a new doctor. Long story, but we were not thrilled with our previous health care and are now with Kaiser. We love his new doctor and are so excited we switched. His name is Dr. Doan and he is fabulous and really does well with Evan. According to Dr. Doan our little guy is right on track currently weighing 14.8 lbs. (51.63% percentile based on weight for age) and measuring 25 inches (72.53% percentile based on length for age). He had to get three more shots and another liquid medicine today. While we were waiting for the shots Evan feel asleep so needless to say he woke up pretty quickly upon getting his liquid medicine and he especially was alert once the shots started. However, he settled down when we picked him up. He was very brave. We are so proud of him. Good job little guy!

Other milestones at four months include the following:

*He can roll over! He loves doing this and constantly arches his back when he is in his car seat, swing, Bumbo, etc. because he wants to be out and moving in someway. He is such a mover and shaker.
*He also likes to look at everything around him and wants to face out when being held or in the Ergo.
*He laughs and talks quite a bit. He really enjoys having fun. He is such a cutie pie.
*He plays with his toys, especially his rings, and chews, pulls and grasps them with no problem. It is so fun to see him interacting with his play things at this age.
*He smiles all the time and is such a charmer. We just love him so much!
*He also loves playing hide and seek as well as near and far with Mommy and Daddy. He gets such a kick out of this and just laughs and laughs.
*He is eating his feet now and hands/fingers. However, he still enjoys eating Dad's fingers too! :) He can be found putting his whole hand in, thumb, a variety of fingers. Anything seems to go at this period of time. So delicious!
*He loves just looking at his hands and can be found doing this for periods of time.
*He stands all the time when assisted and hardly ever wants to bend his legs to sit.
*He is at the stage where he lets you know when he wants to be picked up and has a distinct cry.
*Evan drools and spits up a lot, making laundry a regular task at our household. (We are right there with you Carolyn.) :)
*Sleeping is still a mystery. We have a better system for regular naps, but sleeping through the night really varies. It has happened, but definitely not regularly. Currently he gets up at about 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. give or take a little. Then he doesn't want to get back in his own bed after the 5:00 a.m. time, he falls asleep while rocking and eating, but once back in the crib wakes up instantly. So fun!
*However, he does sing himself to sleep when being rocked or cuddled...so adorable.
*He still is a greater eater. He is feasting on both breast milk and formula these days. At the doctor's appointment he said we could begin feeding him rice cereal. We hope this might help him sleep better at night. (Quick report, we tried the rice cereal and he seems to really dislike the stuff. We will keep trying, but wow, I don't think you could get a better reaction for not liking something he cries and everything. Poor guy! :) )

Below are some pictures of our treasure. We couldn't be prouder of our little bundle of joy. Thanks for sharing in his development. Hopefully we will post some video of his new tricks soon. Stay tuned.

Here is Evan smiling with his pacifier...so cute!
